Avi Weisfogel is a graduate of the New York University College of Dentistry where he earned his DDS, Dentistry. After graduating, he started a dental practice in Old Bridge, New Jersey, called Old Bridge Dental Care. During his career as a dentist, he developed an ever increasing interest in sleep disorder, especially sleep apnea, and how dentists and physicians could help people who suffer from them. After 15 year he left his practice and went into the field of treating sleep disorders full-time.
People that have sleep apnea stop breathing during the night, often for long lengths of time. This reduces oxygen to the body including the brain. The results of sleep apnea can result in strokes, heart attacks, high blood pressure, and other diseases. It can also result in car accidents caused by overly tired people. In order to more effectively treat this disorder, Avi Weisfogel founded Healthy Heart Sleep in 2010. He worked with physicians, establishing sleep labs within their practices. Unfortunately, Dr. Weisfogel said he entered this market too late but it did give him some great insights.
It was in 2012 that Dr. Avi Weisfogel established Owner Unlimited Sleep Patient. With this business, he provided lectures to dentists on how they could increase the number of patients coming to them with sleep disorders and how to treat them. He now operates Dental Sleep Masters which he founded in 2014. At Dental Sleep Masters shows dentists how to oral appliances can help their patients manage their sleep apnea. He also shows dentists how to spot potential patients that have a sleep disorder in order to help them.
In a recent interview on ideamensch, Dr. Avi Weisfogel that he regards working as a dentist to actually be the worst job he ever had. He just wasn’t passionate about it which led to a lot of job dissatisfaction. However, he credits the experience and education with getting him to where he is today. He also said that he is able to connect with dentists through Linkedin which has helped him grow Dental Sleep Masters and help more patients of dentists.
