Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin used the media outlets to expose the actions of the most violent Sheriffs in the history of the United States. Joe Arpaio was the sheriff of Maricopa County. He is among the people who have been using the powers bestowed on them for the wrong reasons.
As a sheriff, he was supposed to ensure that the welfare of all the communities living in the state was under control but this did not happen. He led in violating the rights of the people he was supposed to protect.
Lacey and Larkin uncovered the rot that was happening behind closed doors in Maricopa County. Joe Arpaio used to hide under the role he was given to keep law and order in the county to do his things. He used the powers to discriminate the people by ensuring that there was no justice for any of them.
Arpaio believed that the immigrants were behind the wrongs that were occurring in the county and the whole country in general, he accused them of taking over the job opportunities meant for the locals among many other biased allegations.
He thought that just because the immigrants were in the country, that was reason enough to punish them. He did not respect the law which requires all human being no matter who they are to be treated equally. It is the right of the people to live wherever they want in the world without being tortured.
Lacey and Larkin are not the kind of people who can be intimidated by rogue officers. They made sure that the actions of the sheriff were let out to the world.
The crimes he was committing were so bad that he even led to the death of some people. Some people suffered greatly from the crimes of the sheriff. Immigrants were treated like animals. Lives were lost because of the careless behaviors of the sheriff.
Lacey and Larkin were also not left out of the crimes that Arpaio was committing. They were arrested and persecuted by agents sent by Arpaio for revealing the contents of grand jury proceedings.
The steps taken by Arpaio was against the law, and that is why when Lacey and Larkin took the matter to court, they were given a reward with a compensation of $3.75 million. this is the money they used to create Frontera Fund.
