Talkspace Therapist Shares Her Motivation For Helping Others

Depression and anxiety can happen to anyone, even those committed to helping others fight it. Talkspace therapist Alicia Winkle admits that she is no stranger to these difficult yet common conditions herself. In fact, it was her own personal experiences that lead her to a career in therapy. Initially, Winkle had her sights set on a career as a nurse practitioner. After applying and being accepted into nursing school, she was confronted with her own anxiety. Winkle says her anxiety was so difficult to cope with that she had to withdraw from nursing school.

Taking time to reflect on her own feelings and how she could help the many others in her situation, Winkle re-enrolled in school, this time with her sights set on a degree in psychology. Now a behavioral health major, she was sure she would acquire the knowledge and training she needed to help improve the lives of others.

The stigmas and misconceptions placed around depression make coping even more difficult. It is important to remember that depression is a serious condition, and should be treated as such. Seeking help for your condition is the best thing you can do for yourself when battling depression. Despite the stigmas of depression, you do not have to fight alone. Talkspace provides an online escape for those battling depression and anxiety. More than 500,000 members regularly participate in online therapy sessions through the Talkspace platform.
